Tauheed K. Epps, known professionally as 2 Chainz, is an American rapper, musician, media personality and basketball player. Born and raised in College Park, Georgia, he was first recognized as part of the southern hip hop duo Playaz Circle, along with his longtime friend and colleague Earl "Dolla Boy" Conyers. The duo signed with Georgian rapper Ludacris' company Disturbing Peace, Disturbing Peace, and are known for their debut single "Duffle Bag Boy". In February 2012, Epps signed a solo recording contract with Def Jam Recordings, a brand of Universal Music Group. The following August, he released his first studio album Based on T.R.U. The story is August 14, 2012, a commercial success despite mixed opinions. The album produced three hit singles: "No Lie", "Birthday Song" and "I'm Different", all of which entered the Billboard Hot 100 top 50 and were certified Gold or higher by the RIAA, with the Certified Gold album.
Based on a T.R.U. Story, the debut album of a southern-influenced rapper, arrived at number one on the Billboard 200 in 2012. His second album, B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time, debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200 in September 2013.
