She became famous as the lead vocalist of Go-Go's, one of the most successful all-girl groups in history, and continued her peak career as a solo artist. Growing up in Southern California, Carlisle became Go-Go's lead singer after forming the band in 1978. With their debut album Beauty and the Beat topping the charts in 1981, the band helped spread. Go-Go were the first all-female group in history to write songs and play their own instruments to reach album # 1. Go-Go has sold over seven million records worldwide. After Go-Go disbanded in 1985, Carlisle had a successful solo career with radio hits such as "Mad About You", "I Get Weak", "Circle in the Sand", "Leave a. Light On" and "Heaven is a place on earth".
